Alpaca Socks for cold feet – what really helps?
Material, fit and shoe choice – a guide from the Näsemann family
“I always have cold feet.” We’ve heard this sentence on our farm for more than 20 years. Many think: just buy thicker socks. But warm feet come from three things together – material, fit and the shoe.
Here you’ll find our selection of Alpaca socks – especially popular in winter.
Why do feet get cold in the first place?
Cold feet usually arise from dampness, poor circulation or too-tight shoes. Cotton socks become damp quickly and cool the feet. Synthetic socks cause the foot to sweat.
Why alpaca wool regulates temperature and humidity so well, we explain in detail here: The special qualities of alpaca fibre.
Our experience from the farm
When we feed the animals in winter in the mornings, we almost always wear our finest Alpaca socks. They are thick and warm, softly padded and still suitable for shoes.
How products are made from the wool of our animals is shown in: From Alpaca to cuddle piece – Behind the scenes of alpaca wool processing.
Which Alpaca sock fits which purpose?
Everyday, office and outdoors
Our finest Alpaca socks are thick and warm, yet still shoe-friendly. Many customers wear them in the office, while walking or while shopping in winter.
Home and sofa
For those who like it especially soft, go for 100% baby alpaca socks. What “baby alpaca” exactly means, we explain here: Differences between Baby Alpaca and Alpaca.
Hiking and active days
For hiking, many also use our Finest Alpaca socks or Alpaca sport socks.
Many compare alpaca with merino – we explain the differences in: Merino or Alpaca – Which wool suits better?.
Fit – the most common mistake
Even the best sock helps nothing if it doesn’t fit correctly. Too small socks, folds or too tight cuffs lead to cold feet.
Extra warmth is often provided by alpaca insoles, because they insulate the shoe.
Shoe choice – often more important than the sock
Look for insulating soles, breathable materials and enough space for thick socks. Shoes that are too tight impede circulation.

Don’t forget care
Alpaca socks stay warm and soft for a long time when cared for properly. Often airing is enough.
