Before First Use
Your natural fiber blanket has already been washed with natural soap during production and is therefore ready for immediate use. No additional washing is necessary before first use. Our blankets contain no chemical additives or softeners and are finished purely mechanically.
Natural Protection Against Dirt
Thanks to their natural lanolin content, natural fiber blankets are largely resistant to dirt. They absorb hardly any odors and even neutralize body perspiration. Occasionally airing out the blanket in a sheltered, humid environment helps refresh it and allows the fibers to regenerate.
Storage
If you are not using your natural fiber blanket for an extended period, we recommend storing it in an airtight polybag, plastic bag, or tightly woven cotton bag. This helps prevent moth infestation and ensures safe storage.
Washing Instructions
In general, washing is not necessary. However, if you would like to clean your blanket after a few years, please observe the following tips:
- Wash individually: An overloaded washing machine increases friction, which can cause the natural fibers to felt.
- Gentle wool cycle: Use cold water or a hand wash program with a low temperature.
- Mild detergent: Use a special wool detergent or a mild hair conditioner in the main wash cycle.
- Low spin speed: Max. 400 rpm and stop the spinning after about 3 minutes.
- No tumble dryer! The blanket may felt unnecessarily.
Dry Cleaning
We advise against dry cleaning, as it reduces the natural lanolin content in the wool and can leave the blanket feeling straw-like or with an unpleasant smell.
Important Notes
Natural fibers tend to felt due to their scaly structure. Mechanical agitation, heat, moisture, and temperature changes can accelerate this process. It’s important to minimize these factors when washing. Also note: we cannot guarantee results, as each washing machine behaves differently. These are only recommendations!
Disadvantages of Washing
After washing, the surface of the wool blanket may no longer feel as soft and pleasant as before. Additionally, the blanket may shrink by approximately 2–5% in both length and width.
