This timeless woven scarf made of pure, exquisite vicuna fiber is one of the most precious and, at the same time, the most comfortable product ever. Experience the exclusivity of the most beautiful fiber that the animal kingdom has to offer. As these animals are scarce, each of these exclusive vicuna scarves has an individual number, and of course, they are CITES certified. You can find the numbering on the label of the scarf.
Vicuñas, also known as vicunas, are new world camelids which have the finest natural fiber in the world. The precious fleece is extremely rare in the world, and it is processed by only a few weaving mills worldwide.
Vicunas belong, just like guanaco, to the vicugna genus. These graceful and elegant relatives of the camels and alpacas live in a small, protected population in the Peruvian Andes above 4,000 m. Their wool is the finest animal hair in the world. Each fiber measures only 11-12 microns; even cashmere with 15-17 micron is coarse compared to this. The vicuñas are shorn only biennially on the back and, to some extent, also on the neck. The yield per shearing and per animal is only about 125-150 grams/4.4-5.3 oz. From this output, 43-47% of the best fibers are still sorted out by hand. This takes enormous work and effort. However, it is well worth it for such incomparable quality. For its processing, masterly weaving techniques are required so that this scarf can be made absolutely evenly from the wafer-thin vicuña fiber. The result is a wonderfully soft-falling accessory that can be draped in various ways.
