How to wash alpaca wool

Washing Alpaca Wool

Hand Washing Alpaca Wool:

  • It is best to use a wool detergent and lukewarm water.
  • Gently agitate the water without rubbing the fabric.
  • After hand washing, rinse your alpaca product thoroughly, gently squeeze out excess water, and lay your natural fiber product flat to dry.

Machine Washing Alpaca Wool:

  • If your washing machine has a dedicated wool wash cycle (maximum 30 degrees Celsius), you can use it.
  • Use wool detergent and avoid using fabric softener.
  • Do not use a spin cycle, and never put alpaca wool in the dryer.

When machine-washing alpaca wool, it is important to use the special wool wash cycle with the specified temperature to prevent felting of the alpaca fibers. We strongly advise against using fabric softener, as it may affect the excellent thermal properties of alpaca wool.

After washing, lay your alpaca product flat to dry. Please do not hang your alpaca wool clothing on a clothesline.

Please note that these instructions do not apply to our Alpaca bedding! Please air them out or have them professionally cleaned. (We also offer this service through our bedding stores, Dorma Vita.)
